Production on The Long Weekend has taken a clear step forward, as g10 films begins the search for the two actors and the crew who will help shape its first original film.

The short film, an LGBTQ+ romantic drama set in and around Brighton, is planned for filming in summer 2027. Casting notices for the two leading male roles, along with crew opportunities, went live on StarNow on Tuesday 3 November 2026.

The announcement follows the project’s initial unveiling in October and marks the start of a new phase for g10 films, part of g10 group.

The Long Weekend begins its casting journey

The Long Weekend will follow two men whose lives unexpectedly cross in Brighton. One is a 30-year-old man who calls the city home. The other is a 25-year-old man originally from Thailand.

What starts as a chance encounter develops into a deeper emotional connection over the course of a long weekend. As they spend time together, both characters begin to face their feelings, their hopes, and the question of whether something brief could become something more lasting.

The story will explore love, connection, vulnerability and uncertainty, with Brighton and its coastline helping to frame the emotional tone of the film.

For g10 films, the launch of the casting process is more than an administrative step. The short centres on the chemistry between its two leads, which means the performances will carry much of the film’s weight. The production is looking for actors who can bring natural warmth, emotional honesty and a sense of lived experience to the roles.

The casting call is open to both experienced performers and emerging acting talent. That wider search gives the production room to find the right pair, rather than only looking for familiar names or conventional casting choices.

A relationship story shaped by Brighton

Brighton is more than a setting for The Long Weekend. The city’s coastline, openness and distinctive character are expected to play a key part in the film’s atmosphere.

The story is built around a short but meaningful period of time, which gives the film a focused emotional frame. A long weekend can feel suspended from ordinary life. It can allow people to speak more freely, take risks, and imagine different futures before reality returns.

That makes it a fitting structure for a romantic drama about two people meeting at an unexpected moment.

The film’s central relationship also brings together two men with different backgrounds and life experiences. One character has a settled connection to Brighton. The other arrives with a different cultural and personal history, having originally come from Thailand. Their meeting opens space for curiosity, tenderness and uncertainty.

Rather than treating romance as simple certainty, The Long Weekend appears set to follow the smaller shifts that happen between two people as trust begins to form. In a short film of around 40 to 50 minutes, those details will matter: a look, a pause, a walk by the sea, or a conversation that changes direction.

Crew recruitment is now underway

Alongside the search for the two leading actors, g10 films has also started recruiting the production crew for The Long Weekend.

The team is seeking talented people across several filmmaking disciplines, including:

  • Cinematography

  • Sound

  • Production management

  • Other key creative and technical roles

These roles will help turn the script and setting into a completed film. For a character-led short, the craft behind the camera will be especially important. The way Brighton is filmed, the rhythm of the editing, the sound of the coast and the intimacy of the performances will all shape how the story lands.

g10 films will oversee the development and production of the project. As preparations continue, the focus will move towards auditions, production planning, location arrangements and financing.

The planned summer 2027 filming window gives the production time to build its cast and crew carefully. It also allows space for practical planning around Brighton locations, schedules and the creative approach to the film’s visual style.

What happens next for the production

With casting and crew recruitment now live, The Long Weekend enters a more active stage of pre-production.

The next steps are expected to include auditions for the two leading roles, conversations with potential crew members, and further planning around how and where the film will be shot. More announcements about casting developments and filming preparations are expected in due course.

Once completed, The Long Weekend is intended to be made available free of charge through g10 group’s website and digital platforms. That approach should make the film accessible to audiences without a paywall, helping the project reach viewers who connect with LGBTQ+ storytelling, independent film and Brighton-set drama.

For g10 films, this first original production will set an early marker for the company’s creative direction. A short film of this scale relies on clarity of story, strong performances and a crew who can work closely around a shared vision.

The launch of recruitment on StarNow signals that the project is no longer only in announcement stage. It is now looking for the people who will define how The Long Weekend feels on screen.

The coming months will be key. The right cast will need believable chemistry. The right crew will need to capture the intimacy of the story and the texture of Brighton in summer. If those pieces come together, The Long Weekend could become a personal, emotionally focused first film for g10 films, and a meaningful new addition to contemporary LGBTQ+ short cinema.
